Learning to Shape Our Future
To offer a wide variety of learning opportunities that develop and extend children’s Art skills, providing opportunities to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas allowing them to flourish as resourceful and reciprocal leaners.
To engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the cultural wealth and creativity of our nation, furthering learning by researching different techniques and facts about the lives of different artists.
How We Learn
We intend our children to develop an inquiring mind in art and become self-directing learners, furthering learning by researching different techniques and facts about the lives of different artists. They will have the resilience to persevere at problem solving, find answers through a mixture of adult led and self-directed projects, by considering a challenge and developing a growth mindset when experimenting with different mediums.
In line with the National Curriculum, our children are encouraged to connect different styles of art from around the world to broaden our children’s understanding of art, taking into consideration its context, culture and time in history. They will learn facts about the lives of different artists, and explore different mediums and techniques; evaluating their effectiveness.
We have designed a bespoke curriculum which complements our thematic learning, this is woven throughout the year to allow opportunities to make connections with other subjects. Our themes and concepts culminate with an authentic outcome so the children feel their work has purpose and value.
